Son of H. T. Holmes, of the Dog and Duck Inn, Ladygate, Beverley.

Sgt Tyrer wrote to Stanley's Parents. He had tried to attend the funeral but was delayed and wrote

" The Sergeant Pilots of 46 Squadron at Digby, in Norway and again at Digby always stuck together and helped each other, There are only two of us now, the others have gone.

They were men, everyone of them and died in England,  for England, defending England. In the finest service in the world . They have gone but the fine spirit of comradeship they bred is still with us "



Transcript of Report from Hull Daily Mail Sept 1940

AIR HERO The death of Sergeant Pilot Stanley Andrew was a great shock to the village. Nearly 22 years of age he volunteered as a pilot nearly 3 years ago, He was home on leave 3 weeks before his death. He was of a quiet nature but made friends wherever the went. He was educated at the village day school and ay night school passed his examinations with flying colours.
At his parents request he will be brought from London to be buried in the quiet little churchyard at North Ferriby on Wednesday.
Mr & Mrs Andrew have two other sons who have joined the Army during the past month. The Revd Harris Lloyd, Vicar conducted the service. The coffin was carried by six RAF men, an Officer, Sergeant and several RAF members attended to pay a last respect.
The chief mourners were
Mr & Mrs J W Andrew parents; Sapper John Andrew, Gunner Cyril Andrew, Master Mark Andrew, brothers.
Mr Charles Andrew, uncle. Miss Andrew [ would be Aunt Lizzie ] Miss Lucy Andrew, Mrs Lewis Holmes, Mrs G T Beadle, Mr & Mrs E Reavesley [ Reaveley ], Mrs Brierley [ ? Burkhill ], cousins [ and Aunts ]
